Lessons FROM MERGING PERSONAL DATA FROM MULTIPLE COMMERCIAL DATA SOURCES
The third output, published in April 2025, sets out the learnings from carrying out a large-scale data amalgamation using real data for individuals in the UK who are saving or have saved into a pension. Data from five different pension master trusts was merged as part of the private beta phase of the Pensions Data Project.
A more detailed report focusing on understanding the small pots situation, including the value and build up or down of these pots, alongside pensions wealth across five master trusts, will be published later in 2025.
Lessons learned from matching pension provider membership data
The second output, published in February 2025, provides the initial findings on the matching stage of the private beta stage of the Project. It involved amalgamating data across five master trusts to understand error rates in data matching and to gain insights into levels of matching.
A more detailed report focusing on understanding the small pots situation, including the value and build up or down of these pots, alongside pensions wealth across five master trusts, will be published later in 2025.
What needs to be considered when delivering a data-based research project involving multiple UK pension providers
The first output, published in March 2022, sets out what has been learnt and identifies the three essential areas that need to be considered when working across multiple providers and their data to successfully deliver an amalgamated database of member data. These include:
Governance: Clearly documented processes, documents, and timelines
Data: How the data will be formatted, anonymised, merged, analysed, stored and the importance of testing and testing again
Teamwork: How the people involved in the project can make all the difference to its success
